Come See the Jerusalem You Didn’t Know Existed

December 26, 2017 //  by Direct Supply Network – Travel Wholesaler Technology

Come See the Jerusalem You Didn't Know ExistedWhile history abounds within the region, the city of Jerusalem is nearly overflowing with historically significant sites; so much so, that it can be difficult to know where to begin. Luckily, however, Jerusalem is a place where, even if you have no knowledge regarding the region, this will actually be to your advantage. The history of Jerusalem is so rich, you’ll find that learning from the region’s experts firsthand is incredibly worthwhile.

Most people when they think of Jerusalem conjure images of Jesus and the Holy City. While Jerusalem is certainly one of the holiest cities in the world, thinking that Jesus paraphernalia is all you will find couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, your religious stance makes no matter at all in this historical city. The sites discussed here, while perhaps religious in nature, have incredible historical significance. Some of the sites you can visit are well worth busting your way through scores of crowds to see.

The oldest part of Jerusalem is known as the Old City. One of the most historically significant assets is the Tower of David. Located at the outskirts, this ancient stronghold was a medieval fortress and much of its architecture spans several different historical periods, such as the Byzantine era and early Muslim times. Several relics have also been found at the site that date back more than 2000 years. Also at the site is a museum that houses over 4000 years of history for this region.

Another must see site while in Jerusalem is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Considered to be the holiest of all Christian places in the world, this is where it is believed that Jesus was put upon the cross.

Because there are so many various denominations within the Christian orthodoxy, this church is divided into as many portions as possible to reflect as many as possible. You’ll see that each denomination bitterly guards their specified area. The Greek Orthodox is the denomination holding the most area within the church, sharing this space with Armenian Apostolics and Roman Catholics.
